Latest Press Clippings -Sohrabuddin Sheikh Encounter Case- Vijay Rathod released on Bail

Posted March 3, 2012

Supreme Court of India on 02.03.2012 Granted Bail to Shri Vijay Arjunbhai Rathod who is stated to be witness in the Sohrabuddin Encounter Case but was in jail as he was made accused on application of the other original accused persons in the case. Earlier also State CID had made him witness in the case but the other accused persons in the case approached the Sessions court which made a reference to the Hon'ble Gujarat High Court. The Hon'ble Gujarat High Court while answering the reference directed him to be made an accused. He was in jail since 9.5.2008. Thereafter while hearing the Writ Petition of Rubabuddin, Brother of Sohrabuddin the Honble Apex Court directed the probe to be done again by the premier investigation agency CBI. The agency again came to conclusion that Shri Rathod is an important witness in the Case. CBI in its affidavit before the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India reiterated the same stand. Shri D G Vanzara who is prime accused in the case moved an application for impleadment in the case and challenged the grant of bail to Shri Rathod. CBI in its chargesheet has specifically stated that Shri Rathod had joined ATS only a week before the incident and was acting on the instructions of the superior and was not in any way involved in the conspiracy. Supreme Court ordered to release Shri Rathod on Bail on furnishing bond of Rs 30000/- and two sureties of the same amount to the satisfaction of the Hon'ble Trial Court.
